Volunteer Responsibilities:
Swim and dive meets are run by volunteers. When you register your child(ren) to be a part of our team, you accept the responsibility of volunteering. A home meet requires 44 swim volunteers and 6 dive volunteers. Away meets require half as many. Each family is responsible for volunteering for at least 4 swim meet shifts if you have 1-2 non Mini Orca athletes or 5 swim meet shifts if you have 3 or more non Mini Orca athletes. If you have a diver, you are responsible for 3 shifts during dive meets. Some shifts for swim meets may be ½ a meet. Other shifts may be over the entire meet, but you have some flexibility and you don’t have to be at a “post”. For your child to participate at A or B finals volunteer shifts must be fulfilled. Participation in finals also requires that you volunteer during finals events. Shifts can be covered by older children (high school age) or other family members. If you are new to summer swim and dive, we will offer training for how to do the jobs. There will be a $100 fee if volunteer requirements are not met. We need your time and support of our swimmers and divers, not your money.
“Mini-Orcas”
Mini Orcas are our swimmers ages 4-6 who are comfortable in the water but not ready to swim in meets. They practice in the shallow end of the pool and work their way up to being able to swim a full lap. Before the official start of the last home meet, July 9th, the Mini Orcas will be invited to swim a lap as their coaches and teammates cheer them on. Please make sure your child is comfortable going under the water and blowing bubbles before you sign them up as a Mini Orca. For those of you who are unsure if your child is able to do this, you can bring them to the pool between May 27th or 28th between 5:30 and 6:30. For the kiddos who aren’t yet comfortable going under water and blowing bubbles, please be on the lookout for the group swim lesson sessions we will be offering. We will also have a list of guards who give private swim lessons.
Team Suit:
Team suits are not mandatory. If you would like a team suit, they are ordered through Swimville, located in Kenwood. You can also call or order a team suit online. Check out the information from Swimville - Info Letter. Here is the Swimville order form link.
We will have a swim suit size kit from Swimville available at OHSC on May 5th, 6:30 - 8:00, during the team fee drop off night. Your child will be able to try on suits of different sizes to find the right fit.
Silicone Cap:
All swimmers will be given a latex team cap at the first meet. Silicone caps are not necessary, but some swimmers prefer them. Silicone caps can be personalized. If you are interested in ordering a silicone cap, please see the information. Orders are due May 5th. To order, you can use this Google Form OR print and drop off the paper form along with payment to Tara Binder at 4611 Farcrest Ct. 45247. We need to meet the minimum to process the order. If we do not meet the minimum, you will be reimbursed.
